How TikTok Helped My Style Part II: The 75 Hard Style Challenge
How learning from digi-stylists has moved the needle on my wardrobe 🙆♀️
Despite what our agist society tells you, TikTok is not just for teenagers. There’s an expansive wealth of information and exploration happening on the app that, in my opinion, has made social media a new kind of fun. Just beyond the surface of lipsyncing, pranks, and dance trends lies a bevy of fascinating and original creators discussing everything from social justice to clean eating to royal family deep dives to physics breakdowns.
One of my favorite content categories? Fashion.
In Part I, I talked about stylist Allison Bornstein and her viral Three Word method - a practice of choosing three adjectives to describe your personal style and how doing so helped me hone in further on my authentic taste. Learning from her and working with this method, I discovered some enlightening information about my styling approach and what I’m drawn to. That’s the key part for me - finding out more about my own genuine style, not just hopping on the latest craze.
In a climate where microtrends are firing off faster than we can remember them—Coastal Grandma, Ballet-Core, Desert Aunt, Library-Core, Surfer Nephew, Regencycore, Indie Sleaze—it’s extremely useful to hone a strong inner compass for getting dressed day to day in a way that makes us feel authentic to ourselves. Today, I’m diving into fashion analyst Mandy Lee’s viral 75 Hard Style Challenge and how it helped me do just that.
